How this calculator counts age
Age goes up on your birthday. Someone who is 3 years and 11 months old is still 3, and turns 4 one month later. This is the system most countries use.
Other age systems. Some cultures count differently. In traditional East Asian systems, a baby is 1 at birth and gains a year at the lunar new year instead of on the birthday. This page doesn’t use those systems.
Months and days near month-end. Months have different lengths, so results can look odd when the birth day is near the end of a month. We count whole months from your birth day first, then the leftover days. From Feb 28 to Mar 31, that gives 1 month and 3 days. Treating both dates as month-end would give exactly 1 month. Both are reasonable, and we use the first.
Totals. Days are counted on the calendar, and hours are days × 24, so time of day and daylight saving changes are ignored.
Born on Feb 29. In years that aren’t leap years, the birthday is counted on Mar 1.
